I choose charities that are close to my heart and that are involved in my books in some way. I created this page to give you more information on the organizations I've chosen.

St. John Providence Open Arms Grief Support
Open Arms is a grieving children’s support program that helps children ages 3-17 years and their family members find healthy ways to cope with their feelings of sadness, anger or frustration, and be able to return to their day-to-day activities. Open Arms has become a place of comfort for children and adults who are surviving the loss of a loved one.
RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) is the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization and was named one of "America's 100 Best Charities" by Worth magazine. RAINN created and operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline (800.656.HOPE and online.rainn.org) in partnership with more than 1,100 local sexual assault service providers across the country and operates the DoD Safe Helpline for the Department of Defense. In 2015, the Online Hotline expanded to offer services in Spanish at rainn.org/es. RAINN also carries out programs to prevent sexual violence, help victims and ensure that rapists are brought to justice.
Earthworks Urban Farm
The Capuchin Soup Kitchen’s Earthworks Urban Farm is a 2.5 acre certified organic farm located in the City of Detroit. We seek to build a just, beautiful food system through education, inspiration, and community development. As a working study in both social justice and in knowing the origins of the food we eat, Earthworks strives to restore our connection to the environment and community.

The CF Foundation supports a wide range of innovative research programs to discover and develop new and effective CF therapies. By harnessing the best minds in science and medicine, the Foundation has made tremendous progress in understanding and treating the disease, and we continue to pursue every opportunity that could help people with CF live longer and healthier lives.
The Checkers Charitable Foundation is a 501C3 that exists to assist in the funding of non-profits in the Carolinas that focus on promoting the health, character, education and success of children and adolescents. Proceeds from fundraising are distributed to numerous charities in the Carolinas. With your support, the Checkers Charitable Foundation is able to provide funding to deserving local non-profits to support their missions and impact the community.
A coalition of New York City civic leaders including Mayor Bill DeBlasio, U.S. Congress Members Nydia Velázquez and Adriano Espaillat, and New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito have joined the Hispanic Federation and its partnering community based organizations to launch “Unidos” (United), a hurricane relief fund to help those impacted by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.
The fund will be managed by the Hispanic Federation, a leading Latino 501C3 nonprofit organization with more than 25 years of experience in providing disaster-relief assistance to Latinos in the United States and Latin America. One hundred percent of the proceeds will help hurricane victims and the recovery efforts through fellow community and civic organizations in Puerto Rico.
